Proper Motor Oil Disposal
Why Proper Disposal Matters
Pouring motor oil down drains or pipes can harm the water system. Proper disposal helps protect the environment and keeps waterways clean.
How to Store Used Motor Oil
- Use the original oil container or a polyethylene container if the original isn’t available.
- Ensure the container is clean and has never been used for other liquids.
- Store the sealed container in a dry, cool, and undisturbed location until you can recycle it.
Mixing Liquids
- Do not mix used motor oil with other substances like antifreeze, brake fluids, kerosene, gasoline, or water. Mixed liquids cannot be recycled and can ruin the entire batch.
Where to Dispose of Motor Oil
- Most AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, and O’Reillys accept used motor oil for recycling.
- Within the next 2-4 weeks you will be able to dispose of used motor oil at the Convenience Centers at Rocky Point and Hampstead, which will have designated oil drums for proper disposal.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure safe and responsible disposal of motor oil.
