Adult Services
Intake
Adult Protective Service and Child Protective Service Referrals are received on a 24-hour basis. During business hours reports can be made in person at Pender County Department of Social Services or by phone at 910-259-1240. After-hours, weekends or holidays incoming calls are referred through dispatch at the Pender County Sheriff’s Department where an on-call social worker is provided the caller's contact information. Adult Protective Services
Adult Protective Services (APS) are provided to disabled adults, 18 years of age or older who are alleged to be abused, neglected, or exploited and in need of protection. APS Social Workers receive reports, evaluates the need for protection, and provides intervention when needed.
Adult Guardianship
Adult Guardianship is designed to protect and support adults who are unable to manage their personal affairs or make informed decisions due to incapacity. The Clerk of Court provide legal framework for the appointment of a person or corporation to provide case management to ensure that vulnerable adults receive the care, protection and decision-making support they need. Social workers are assigned guardianship referrals to complete and maintain caseloads to serve duties as guardian of the person when DSS is appointed. Adult Care Home Licensing & Monitoring
This program ensures the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance of adult and family care homes. These facilities provide residential care and supervision for elderly and disable adults who need assistance with daily activities but do not require the intensive medical care provided in nursing homes. The Adult Home Specialist (AHS) provides assistance, routine monitoring, and complaint investigations in Adult and Family Care Homes operating in Pender County. Special Assistance In-Home Program
Special assistance in-home program (SA-IH) is designed to support elderly and disabled individuals who require assistance with daily living activities but prefer to stay in their homes rather than move to a residential care facility. The program provide financial assistance and supportive services to ensure that individual can maintain their independence and quality of life while receiving the necessary care. Adult Placement Services
Adult Placement services assist elderly and disabled adults in finding and securing appropriate living arrangements when they can no longer live independently. To learn more about this service, please contact an Adult Services Social Worker at 910-259-1240.
Adult Day Care
This program provides daytime care for older adults and individuals with disabilities. The program offers a range of services including social and recreational activities, health monitoring, personal care and meals. It aims to support participants in maintaining independence, providing respite for caregivers, and enhancing the quality of life for both clients and their families.
