Randy Burton took the oath of office administered by NC Representative Carson Smith on Monday during the Pender County Board of County Commissioners Meeting. Accompanied by his wife, Sheila Burton, he officially assumed the role of Commissioner on the Pender County Board of Commissioners. Burton was appointed by the Pender County Republican Party Executive Committee to fill the vacant District 2 seat, previously held by Wendy Fletcher-Hardee, who resigned due to health reasons.
A native of Pender County, Burton brings a wealth of public service experience spanning over 38 years in EMS, Fire Service, and Law Enforcement. After retiring from the Fire Service in 2019, Burton returned to Law Enforcement, further deepening his commitment to public service and community welfare.
In his inaugural session on the Board of Commissioners, Commissioner Burton's first official duty was to approve the FY 2024-2025 budget, a critical responsibility in ensuring the county's continued fiscal health and development. His tenure will continue until December when a general election in November will determine the permanent occupant of the District 2 seat on the Board of County Commissioners.
