James Williams was honored with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine during Monday’s Pender County Board of Commissioners meeting. The award, one of the most prestigious recognitions granted by the Governor of North Carolina, is presented to individuals who have a proven record of extraordinary service to the state.

Recipients are selected based on their contributions to their communities, extra effort in their careers, and many years of service to their organizations.

Williams recently retired from Pender County Utilities after years of dedicated public service. Known for his steady leadership and commitment to his team, he made a lasting impact on Pender County Utilities and Pender County.

Chief Operating Officer Brian Terry described Williams as a mentor who served with integrity.

Williams spoke about what the award meant to him. He said he took pride in serving the public and lived by one simple rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
