Pender County Launches Future Leaders Internship Program for Summer 2025

PENDER COUNTY, NC — Pender County Government is excited to announce the launch of the Pender County Future Leaders Internship Program, a paid summer opportunity designed to empower local youth and provide them with hands-on experience in various fields of local government. This nine-week program aims to cultivate leadership qualities, enhance career readiness, and foster civic engagement among rising high school juniors and seniors in Pender County Schools.

Participants will gain invaluable skills through mentorship, professional development, and exposure to community initiatives. By connecting students with experienced mentors in Local Government, the program seeks to inspire young leaders to make meaningful contributions to their community while preparing them for future educational and career opportunities.

The internship will run from June 9 through August 6, 2025. Interested students must submit a completed application packet by the deadline of March 14, 2025. Applications can be submitted through school guidance counselors, in person at the Pender County Government Office at 801 S. Walker Street, Burgaw, NC 28425, or via email to kwicklinebennett@pendercountync.gov.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enrollment in Pender County Schools as a rising high school junior or senior
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license
  • Submission of a completed application packet, including an essay and three references (two teachers and one general reference)
  • Signed Parental Consent and Liability Waiver
