The Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WMPO) is launching Round 2 of community engagement for its Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan. Public engagement will remain open through February 2026.
The SS4A program is a federal initiative from the U.S. Department of Transportation designed to help communities prevent serious injuries and fatalities on the transportation network. The program emphasizes safety for all users, including people walking, biking, using mobility devices and taking transit, in addition to those driving.
The WMPO SS4A Safety Action Plan aims to develop a comprehensive, multimodal strategy to reduce roadway fatalities and serious injuries across the WMPO region.
Round 2 of community engagement will focus on gathering public feedback on draft safety project locations. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate by visiting the WMPO SS4A Safety Action Plan website at wmpo.org/safetyactionplan. The site includes project materials, an online survey, an interactive draft project map, information on upcoming engagement events and an option to sign up for project updates.
As part of Round 2 engagement, WMPO will also host a Hot Chocolate Hike at Abbey Nature Preserve at 10 a.m. on Jan. 31, offering community members an opportunity to learn more about the plan and share feedback closer to home.
Public input will play a key role in shaping future safety investments and priorities throughout the region.
