Pender County Turns Imelda’s Shift Into Training Opportunity

Home Posted on September 29, 2025

With Tropical Storm Imelda posing less of a threat to the Carolinas, Pender County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is using the time to strengthen readiness through live training exercises.

Emergency Management staff and partner agencies are running full-scale operations as though Imelda had stayed on course for North Carolina. The training covers communication, resource management, and coordination between response teams.

“Every storm gives us a chance to learn and improve,” said Pender County Emergency Management officials. “By training as if Imelda were still headed our way, we build stronger operations, sharpen teamwork, and ensure we are ready when a real emergency happens.”

The EOC emphasizes that while the county avoided direct impacts from Imelda, hurricane season continues until Nov. 30. Officials encourage residents to remain prepared by reviewing family emergency plans, checking supplies, and staying informed through official county updates.
