PENDERLEA, NC – On November 13, 2024, the Pender County community came together for a memorable occasion: the ribbon-cutting and dedication of the Penderlea Community Park. This exciting event celebrated the collaborative efforts that turned this vision into reality, offering families, friends, and neighbors a vibrant new space to gather, play, and connect.

The park features historic buildings, a playground for children, and a new picnic shelter/restroom facility, making it a wonderful addition to the community. It stands as a testament to the county’s commitment to enhancing recreational opportunities and preserving the rich legacy of Penderlea.

The dedication ceremony began with a welcome from Brad George, Chairman of the Pender County Board of Commissioners, who set the tone for a day of reflection and celebration. Jackie Newton, Vice Chair of the Board of Commissioners, shared the journey of the park project, highlighting the dedication and teamwork that brought it to fruition.

Ray Rosso, Vice Chair of the Pender County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, emphasized the value of parks in fostering wellness and community spirit, while also spotlighting notable features of Penderlea, such as the auditorium and gym. Esteemed community members Jimbo and June Robbins added historical context, connecting the park to Penderlea’s rich cultural heritage.

Zach White, Director of Pender County Parks and Recreation, concluded the ceremony by officially dedicating the park. He invited guests to enjoy refreshments, explore the park’s amenities, and participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the official opening of this cherished community asset.
