PENDER COUNTY, N.C. — In an exceptional mobilization of community resources, more than 70 tons of essential supplies have been delivered to areas severely impacted by Hurricane Helene. Over three days, 92 pallets of goods, including 100,000 water bottles, were sent to distribution points in Black Mountain and Hendersonville, two regions hardest hit by the storm.
Thanks to the efforts of local volunteers, donors, and logistics teams, three transfer trucks successfully delivered food, water, medical supplies, and other necessities to address the urgent needs of affected residents. The community's generosity raised more than $24,000, with all funds benefiting local relief organizations.
"We recognized the urgent need for emergency supplies in Western North Carolina and swiftly activated a plan to ensure they were delivered to those in need," said Chief Everett Baysden of Pender EMS & Fire. "Thanks to the overwhelming support of our community, we will be sending two to three more truckloads of supplies on Monday. At this time, we will no longer be accepting donations, allowing our staff to focus on local response efforts."
The relief operations, coordinated with local emergency management teams and nonprofit organizations, aim to ensure residents of Western North Carolina have immediate access to critical supplies needed for recovery.
"These communities were devastated by Hurricane Helene, and we knew we had to act quickly to provide relief," said Fire Marshal Burton of the Pender County Fire Marshal's Office. "The outpouring of support from Pender County has been overwhelming, and we are sincerely grateful to everyone who contributed."
More than 20 volunteers from various county departments, along with residents, are working at Pender EMS & Fire Station 1 in Burgaw, sorting and preparing additional supplies for shipment to Western North Carolina. Additionally, multiple first responders from Pender County agencies are currently on the ground in Western North Carolina, providing direct assistance.
