Update - Due to forecasted inclement weather this weekend, the Touch-A-Truck and Candy Drop has been postponed to Saturday, Nov. 15.


Hampstead Kiwanis Park to Host First-Ever Candy Drop Oct. 11

Pender County Parks and Recreation will host the first-ever Candy Drop at Hampstead Kiwanis Park on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. The family-friendly event will feature candy drops by age group, food trucks, vendors, and an outdoor movie.


The highlight of the celebration is the Candy Drop, where candy will rain down from a Four County Electric Membership Corporation truck in five rounds:

  • 4 p.m. – Ages 0–4
  • 4:15 p.m. – Ages 5–8
  • 4:30 p.m. – Ages 9–12
  • 4:45 p.m. – Ages 13–17
  • 5 p.m. – Ages 18 and older

The event will also include Touch-a-Truck with emergency vehicles and staff from the Pender County Fire Marshal’s Office, as well as food trucks and local vendors. Families can bring a blanket or chair and stay for a free outdoor showing of Scooby-Doo at 7 p.m.

The full schedule includes:

  •  3 p.m. – Event begins with vendors, bouncy houses and Touch-a-Truck
  • 4 to 5 p.m. – Candy Drop (by age group)
  • 6 p.m. – Event winds down
  • 7 p.m. – Outdoor movie begins

 The event will be held at Hampstead Kiwanis Park, 586 Sloop Point Road, Hampstead, at the small picnic shelter on the baseball side of the park. Guests are encouraged to wear costumes and bring a bucket or bag to collect candy.

Event sponsors include Black River Medicine, Perry’s Emporium, Farm Bureau – Hampstead Branch, Four County Electric Membership Corporation, Marine Federal Credit Union, Show Your Glow Maternity, Burry Chocolates, O’Reilly Auto Parts and the Coastal Pender Rotary Club.
