Environmental Health

Environmental Health is an important component of the Public Health Department and provides on-site wastewater services to the community for the evaluation and permitting of soils for septic systems, inspection of food handling establishments for the maintenance of sanitary food handling practices, swimming pool inspections, water well monitoring and approvals, and Mosquito Control and Prevention.

Environmental Health Specialists are also actively involved in a county-wide program to sample ambient waterways for pollution and drinking water for bacterial and chemical contaminants. Environmental Specialists also serve on the blood lead poisoning team to investigate potential exposures to environmental lead by children in schools, daycares, and Head Start programs.
